Mount Cameroon, commonly known as the « chariot of the gods “, is located in Buea, which was the former political capital of German Cameroon. Buea nowadays houses several traces that bear witness to German colonization in Cameroon. Among others, the gigantic palace of the German governor Von PUTTKAMER which was built around the 1920s, the Bismarck fountain, the German cemetery and many other attractions.
We shall then unravel the Mount Cameroon of 4,100 m above sea level, which is not only the highest peak on the West African coast but also the most active volcano. Once at the summit of this mountain, you will discover a unique breath-taking experience. The landscape is made up of varied vegetation that ranges from the mangrove, the Evergreen forest, the equatorial rainforest, the Montagne forest, the savannah and rugged terrain with a flora and fauna which are very rich in plant and animal species.
Mount Cameroon is the absolute evidence of a volcano still in activity. You shall have the opportunity to walk on the lava flows created during the eruptions of 1959, 1999 and 2000. Once at the top, you shall have a picturesque view of the cities of Buea and Douala as far as your eyes can see, only for you to realize at last that you are in the clouds with your feet on the ground.
Long itinerary
Day 1: Douala International Airport – Buea (74.1 km).
Arrival of visitors by flight to the Douala international airport, reception by our competent and professional manager and departure for Buea, situated at the foot of Mount Cameroon, in the South-west region of Cameroon. Arrival in Buea, check-in at the hotel, dinner, and overnight.
Day 2: Buea – Ascension to Mount Cameroon (Hut 3)
Early morning breakfast and transfer to Lower Farms area, located at 1000m of altitudes, the starting point for the hiking. With your bag on the back, accompanied by porters and guides, you naturally begin the “chariot of the gods” exploration here.
You will discover the tropical forest of the mountains and savannah landscapes. The approximate duration of the hiking up to the hut 1, is about 3 to 4 hours. Arrival at the hut 1 (altitude 1,850 m), short break, snacks and continuation of the ascent to the hut 2. Arrival at hut 2 (altitude 2,850 m) and guided tour to the caves, discovery of the geological attractions here and snap shots. This altitude offers a magnificent view over the whole city of Buea. After a well-deserved rest, continuation of hiking to the hut 3 (altitude: 3.950 m), arrival at hut 3, rest, meals, massaging sessions and overnight.
Day 3: Mount – Cameroon (Hut 3) – Summit – Buea
Early morning wake-up and continuation of the climbing to the summit (alt. 4100m). At last! a sudden phew of relief! The objective of challenging the highest peak of the West African coast is achieved. It remains only the descent. Visit of the summit attractions, taking of souvenir pictures, snacks and rest. Start of the descent trip through the same trail, stop overs for snack at hut 2, and hut 1. Arrival at Upper Farms, return to hotel (via city taxis), rest, meals, massage sessions and overnight.
Day 4: Buea – Douala International Airport (74.1 km)
Breakfast, city tour of Buea and departure for Douala. Arrival at Douala, shopping at the Douala Central Market, goodbye lunch, evaluation of trip, drive to the airport and end of to
