Theme: TOWARDS THE CONQUEST OF APES AND BUTTERFLIES IN NATURE
2 days and a night
Itinerary: YAOUNDE – MEFOU – EBOGO – YAOUNDE
Tour description
This overnight tour is taking us to The Mefou National Park is a semi-natural park with sanctuary of gorillas and chimpanzees situated some 37 km South from the centre of Yaounde. It gives you an opportunity to learn more about deforestation and the illegal trading of endangered native species of wildlife in Cameroon as you take a guided tour with the knowledgeable staff of the park. You shall have fun with Eto’o, the very first baby gorrila delivered to the park in 2007. This park was created in 1999 by Dr Sheri Speede. It covers over 1000 hectares of land. It is devoted to the conservation of native wildlife and the protection of their natural habitats. The animals found here are seized from hunters, captured in the jungles after sustaining wounds from hunting expeditions most of which are young orphans whose parents have been killed. Once these wounded animals are treated, they are immediately re-inserted into their natural habitats.
The idea of this park came forth in 1997 by the Bristol Zoological Society of England. This society financially supports the Cameroon Wildlife Aids Fund (CWAF). The park is managed today by Apes Action Africa.
The Ebogo Ecotourism site will be our next attraction where you shall be welcomed by HRH Ernest ONANA, an enthusiastic tour guide who is fondly referred to as « the last crocodile ». You shall have a boat ride on the river Nyong, and guided canoe cruise trip to visit the more than a 1000 years old Kisopo tree.
You can also watch butterflies in nature, indulge in recreational fishing on the River Nyong to be used for lunch along the river-side restaurant. If you wish, we can place a command for sweet palm wine for you to digest your meal with it.
